Meet the experienced and friendly doctors who make Hunter Family Vision the leading provider of vision care products and services in Leawood and Prairie Village.

Dr. Brandon K. Hunter

Dr. Hunter, a Johnson County native, opened Hunter Family Vision in 2006 after 4 years of practice in Shawnee, Kansas. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology with Honors from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. In 2002, Dr. Hunter graduated from the University of Missouri – St. Louis School of Optometry on the Dean’s List with Honors. Dr. Hunter is currently the medical director for Vision Source Kansas City and is a past board member of the Kansas Optometric Association. As the team eye doctor of Sporting KC for over 10 years, Dr. Hunter’s expertise in sports vision has been utilized by one of the area’s most exciting sports teams.

Dr. Hunter enjoys caring for patients of all ages. He concentrates on fitting contact lenses and providing medical eye care. Dr. Hunter has consulted with a number of pharmaceutical and contact lens companies, working to improve the products that his patients utilize. He attends continuing education all over the country, applying the latest research and technology in his practice every day.

Dr. Hunter’s wife, Mandi, is an attorney with the Hunter Law Group P.A. in Mission. Mandi and Brandon have a growing family that includes Will and Kate. Dr. Hunter tries to find the time to run, having competed in the last few Kansas City half-marathons. He will usually take time off for a few BBQ cooking competitions in the summertime. Dr. Hunter enjoys watching his beloved Jayhawks during both the football and basketball seasons (mostly basketball).

Dr. Kevin R. Tomasu

Dr. Tomasu, originally from Wichita, KS, received his Bachelor of Science in Organismal Biology from the University of Kansas. He graduated from the Oklahoma College of Optometry with Distinction where he was recognized with Clinical Excellence and Clinical Research awards. Dr. Tomasu enjoys caring for patients of all ages and has a particular interest in ocular disease, dry eye syndrome, and contact lenses. He is an active member in optometry and is involved in several professional associations including the American Optometric Association and the Kansas Optometric Association.

In his free time, Dr. Tomasu is active in the community and recently served as president of the Leawood Lions Club. The Lions Club performs vision screenings at local schools and recommends eye exams for children experiencing vision and eye health conditions. The club also collects and donates used eyeglasses to individuals in need. Dr. Tomasu enjoys spending time with friends and family, exercising, and watching sports. He is a big Jayhawk fan and also has fun cheering on the Royals. He provides comprehensive, personal eye care for the entire family.

Dr. Kim Swan

Drs. Hunter and Tomasu are excited to announce the return of Dr. Kim Swan to Hunter Family Vision. After spending the last 4 years in Milwaukee, Dr. Swan and her family have decided to return to Kansas City. Before moving to Milwaukee Dr. Swan practiced at Hunter Family Vision while also having helped open our Prairie Village office and expand our pediatric specialty practice.

Dr. Swan graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and then spent over 10 years in a pediatric ophthalmology group practice in Kansas City. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages but she finds working with kids especially meaningful. She plans on making a special emphasis in our budding Myopia Control Clinic, an endeavor to reduce the progression of nearsightedness in our younger patient population.

Dr. Lisa Tomasu


Dr. Lisa Tomasu, originally from Wichita, Kansas, received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Kansas. She then earned her Doctorate of Optometry from NSU Oklahoma College of Optometry, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was recognized with a certificate of Clinical Excellence. Dr. Lisa began her career in Lawrence, KS and is now excited to begin practicing with her older brother, Kevin.

Dr. Lisa provides comprehensive eye exams to patients of all ages. She enjoys all aspects of primary eye care and has a particular interest in dry eye disease, myopia management, and specialty contact lenses, including scleral lenses, to treat diseases such as keratoconus. Dr. Lisa is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Kansas Optometric Association.

In her free time, Dr. Lisa enjoys traveling, staying active, and spending time with family and friends. She also loves cheering on the Jayhawks year round!
